Biografia designer: Dalla fine degli anni '80, partendo da un piccolissimo laboratorio nel centro storico di Piacenza, Davide Groppi inventa e produce lampade con il marchio omonimo. Nel corso del tempo, l’indipendenza creativa e imprenditoriale ha permesso di sviluppare progetti originali e fortemente riconoscibili, distribuiti in tutto il mondo. Progetti che arrivano dal cuore e dal cervello, intuizioni che affiorano da un certo modo di essere e di pensare. Lampade e progetti di luce in cui semplicità, leggerezza, emozione ed invenzione sono le componenti fondamentali di progetto.
Le lampade di Davide Groppi non nascono mai semplicemente come lampade, ma come l’esigenza di dare forma ad una necessità o ad un significato. Le sue ispirazioni sono frequentemente l’arte, il ready-made, la magia, la voglia di fare le cose con le mani o semplicemente il desiderio di giocare e scherzare con la luce. La luce, per Davide Groppi, è una meravigliosa occasione per sedurre ed emozionare.
Da sempre Davide Groppi lavora con un affiatato gruppo di collaboratori con i quali condivide lo sviluppo di tutte le idee. Nel corso della sua pluriennale attività ha collaborato, sviluppando progetti e allestimenti, con varie aziende di design tra cui: De Padova, Boffi, Paola Lenti e Christofle.
Innumerevoli sono i lavori sviluppati nel mondo: abitazioni, negozi, musei. Particolarmente dinamica l’attività nel mondo dell’ospitalità. Alcuni dei più importanti chef stellati al mondo, come Massimo Bottura e Moreno Cedroni, hanno scelto la sua luce per i loro ristoranti.
Il lavoro di Davide Groppi è stato più volte riconosciuto attraverso pubblicazioni e assegnazione di premi. Si ricordano il premio Edida nel 2011 per la lampada Sampei, il Premio Design Plus nel 2014 per la lampada Neuro, il doppio XXIII ADI Compasso d’Oro nel 2014 per le lampade Nulla e Sampei e il premio XXIV ADI Compasso d'Oro Menzione d'Onore nel 2016.
Enzo Calabrese nasce a Brindisi nel 1961. Vive e lavora a Pescara. È architetto e industrial designer. PHD, ricercatore e Professore in Composizione Architettonica presso la Facoltà di Architettura di Pescara. È stato Assessore all’Urbanistica e Visiting Researcher al California College of the Arts di San Francisco e al College of Environmental Design dell’Università della California Berkeley, negli Stati Uniti.
